This is responsible for construction and maintenance; policies, laws and construction standards for the construction of Public structures in the Country.
The Public Structures Department is composed of the following divisions:
- Architectural Division
- Electrical Engineering Division;
- Civil and Structural Engineering Division; and
- Quantity Surveying Division
Key Functions:
- Formulate and review policies, laws, standards and regulations on building matters jointly with the Chief Structural/Civil Engineer, Chief Electrical Engineer and Chief Quantity Surveyor.
- Provide technical advice to Government, Local governments and the General Public on all building matters.
- Assess building works and ensure compliance to the standards for efficiency and safety for all Ugandans.
- Monitor the activities of the Architects’` Registration Board and Uganda Society of Architects.
- Draft and lead negotiations for contracts for Government Buildings Works.
- Supervise and Monitor contractual work on government Buildings to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Develop and update inventory of Public Buildings in the Country.
Key Outputs:
- Policies, laws, standards and regulations on building matters formulated and reviewed jointly with the Chief Structural /Civil Engineer, Chief Electrical Engineer and Chief Quantity Surveyor.
- Technical advice to Government, Local governments and the General Public on all building matters provided.
- Building works assessed and compliance to the standards ensured for efficiency and safety for all Ugandans.
- Activities of the Architects' Registration Board and Uganda Society of Architects monitored to ensure compliance with the standards.
- Contractors for Government Buildings Works drafted and negotiations initiated.
- Contractual work on government buildings supervised and monitored to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Inventory of Public Buildings in the Country developed and updated.
